Author Event: Rachel Louise Martin

September 19, 2023

We invite you to a reading and discussion with author & historian Rachel Louise Martin at the library on September 19th at 5:30. She will discuss and take questions about her book, A Most Tolerant Little Town: The Explosive Beginning of School Desegregation, which investigates the 1956 court-ordered desegregation of Clinton High School and the group that became known as the Clinton 12. Drawing from interviews of over sixty people, Martin "expertly weaves together the accounts of students, parents, teachers, and administrators to reveal a forgotten piece of Civil Rights history and a portrait of an American town at the precipice of a turning point in our history." Ms. Martin's work has appeared in outlets like The Atlantic and Oxford American. A Nashville resident, she has also authored Hot, Hot Chicken, a Cultural History of Nashville Hot Chicken.
