Library Assistant I – position begins late August

The Clinton Public Library seeks an energetic, motivated individual who is interested in joining its team. Primary responsibilities include providing prompt and friendly service to the public at the circulation desk and handling the constant flow of material returned to the library.

Under the supervision of the Library Director or his/her designee, the Library Assistant I registers patrons and assists customers with locating material, answers reference questions, reserves material, and helps customers with assorted computer related issues. Applicant must be able to communicate effectively, follow written and oral instructions, and follow ALA principles and guidelines as they pertain to censorship and confidentiality. Must be able to operate standard office equipment, lift and carry books up to 10/20 pounds on a regular basis, move heavy book trucks, stoop, bend and walk to assist customers with finding library material.

Excellent customer service skills and computer experience required, including knowledge of Internet, electronic databases, and Web 2.0 resources. Applicant must have a high school diploma and be able to work days, evenings, and weekends.

This is a part time position, 10-20 hours per week. Starting salary is $8.00 per hour.
